Video: trace 1.1

Project Description:
In the videos of the
trace
series, Kasprzak considers the notion that the promise of perfection offered to us by computers is only as good as the input provided by humans. Kasprzak attempts to re-perform past mouse movements that took place on the desktop of her computer. Landscapes are drawn on the screen, but there are two cursors: one that is creating the drawing, and one that follows, attempting to trace the other cursor's actions.
The
trace
series addresses a desire to achieve perfect behaviours with the assistance of technology. Emulation and repetition are the ways that children acquire motor skills, and the performance has been reduced to these very simple forms of learning. A "model" action was created, which set up the framework to be copied. The performance was then to playback the "model" action, and use the mouse to anticipate the moves and trace the path of the previous movement, with varying degrees of success.
trace 1.1
is a recording of one of these performances.
