My father would swear in Maltese when I was a kid. I didn’t know what he was saying, but I knew when i repeated these words people would yell at me. "Madonna" was the only recognizable word. I always wondered what Madonna had to do with whatever my dad was yelling about. At the time I thought Borderline was the best song ever. Later I switched to Holiday. Still, the swearing continued. He doesn’t swear in Maltese anymore though. Nearly 40 years in Canada did it I guess. He’s back in Malta now though so he might revert. When i was there in December i learnt how to swear using the holy host.
