As with any list, the first thing I do it work out why I can't be pigeonholed!

You know how people often say the 'like a bit of everything'. I always describe myself as liking everything apart from the things the people who like a bit of everything like. I guess I still do think that, though it's not something I am proud of anymore, its basically silly snobbishness... what can I say, I was born like this, I had no choice.

But the thing I like about rummaging around in the nooks and crannies, in the forgoten backwaters, is that it does give a great insight into the value of things, it highlights and evaluates - I guess in a way that the Alanis cover does too, it reveals much more than Alanis's more typical work and indeed on the song it covers.

[...] Lead Into Gold “…the majority of popular culture is worthless, anti-democratic, scelerotic garbage”, according to Stephen Moss, writing recently on the Guardian’s blogs. Mr Moss’ article is in part a reaction to a new report from Oxford sociologists that has determined that the cultural elite does not exist. The report suggests that there are actually four groups of cultural consumers, which Moss summarises as: “univores, who like popular culture; omnivores, who like everything from Posh Spice to Puccini; pau [...]
